Day Twelve Using the Classic Tarot Deck
After asking the question what energy should I focus on “What energy should I focus on today?”
Today I picked the The Tower.
The Tower: When the Universe Forces a Reset
If there is one card in the Tarot deck that can make a reader’s heart skip a beat, it’s The Tower. It’s the card of sudden, disruptive change. But while it looks scary, The Tower is actually one of the most honest and liberating cards in the deck.
It represents the moment the “false floor” falls out from under you, forcing you to stand on solid ground again.
The Imagery: The Lightning Strike
In the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith deck, we see a tall stone tower perched on a jagged mountain. A bolt of lightning strikes the crown of the building, and two figures are seen falling toward the ground. Smoke and flames billow from the windows.
-
The Crown: Represents the ego and the structures we build to feel superior or safe. The lightning knocking it off shows that the universe is in charge, not us.
-
The Jagged Mountain: Symbolizes a foundation built on pride or shaky ground.
-
The Falling Figures: They represent the suddenness of the shift. They aren’t jumping; they are being ejected from a situation that no longer serves them.
Key Meanings: What is it Telling You?
1. Sudden, Unavoidable Change
The Tower isn’t a slow burn; it’s a thunderclap. It represents a “bolt from the blue” that changes everything in an instant—a breakup, a job loss, or a sudden realization that shatters your previous worldview.
The Message: Resistance is futile. The change is happening for you, even if it feels like it’s happening to you.
2. The Destruction of Illusions
The Tower only falls if it was built on a shaky foundation. If you’ve been lying to yourself or staying in a situation that was toxic just because it was comfortable, The Tower arrives to do the “hard work” of demolition for you.
The Message: The truth has arrived. It’s loud and messy, but it’s real.
3. Liberation and Breakthrough
Once the dust settles, there is a profound sense of relief. The structure that was trapping you is gone. You are now free to build something new—this time, on a foundation of truth.
The Message: You are being cleared of what was weighing you down. Look for the “clear air” that follows the storm.
The Tower in Different Contexts
-
In Love: A sudden argument or a “truth bomb” might explode. It can mean a breakup, but it can also mean a total “re-build” of a relationship that was based on secrets or resentment.
-
In Career: You might be faced with a sudden restructuring at work or the realization that your career path is no longer viable. It’s a sign to stop trying to “fix” the old building and start looking for new land.
-
In Spirit: This is a Spiritual Awakening. Your old beliefs are being stripped away so you can experience a higher level of consciousness. It’s the “ego death” required for rebirth.
🌙 The “Silver Lining”
The card that follows The Tower in the Major Arcana is The Star (Healing and Hope). The Tower is the storm that clears the pollution from the air so you can finally see the stars. It is the universe’s way of saying, “I have something much better for you, but I have to clear this away first.”
A Simple Affirmation for The Tower:
“I surrender to the change. I trust that as the old falls away, I am being cleared for a stronger, more honest future.”
Your Next Step
If you’ve recently pulled The Tower, you’re likely in the “cleanup” phase.
