Timing Your Magic

Black Candle for Banishing

🌑 Timing Your Magic

The best time for banishing is during the Waning Moon (the period after the Full Moon as it gets smaller). This phase symbolizes things shrinking, fading, and being released. If you can’t wait, a Saturday—ruled by Saturn, the planet of discipline and boundaries—is your next best bet.

What You’ll Need:

  • A small piece of paper and a black pen.

  • A black candle (Black absorbs and neutralizes energy).

    • Note: If you don’t have black, a plain white tea light works as a “blank slate.”

  • A fire-safe bowl or cauldron.

  • Sea salt (for protection and grounding).

  • Moon Water (optional, for a final “cleansing” of your space).

The Ritual

1. Create Your Circle

Find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed. Sprinkle a small circle of salt around your candle or workspace. As you do, visualize a ring of protective light. This is your “laboratory” where the change begins.

2. Name the Habit

On your piece of paper, write down the habit you want to banish. Be specific. Instead of “being lazy,” try “the urge to procrastinate on my goals.”

3. Charge the Paper

Hold the paper between your palms. Close your eyes and feel the weight that this habit has placed on your life. Acknowledge the frustration it has caused. Imagine that energy flowing out of your hands and into the ink on the paper.

4. The Release

Light your candle. Carefully hold the edge of the paper to the flame and drop it into your fire-safe bowl. As it burns, recite these words with conviction:

“What once was a burden, I now set free. This cycle is broken; it’s no part of me. As ash turns to wind and flame turns to light, I step from the shadow and into my might.”

5. Disposal

Once the ashes have cooled, take them outside. Blow them into the wind away from your home, or bury them in the earth to be neutralized. Do not keep the ashes in your house.
